R:"You never told me only to put nail polish on my nails."

Me in disbelief:"You mean you put it on your skin?"

R: "Yes, and it's stinging now."

"We won't let Joseph have water any more. Only if he needs a drink of water or needs to wash his hands." (Good insights there. Not so easy on the follow through.)

Theo three months old

I am oh so very bonded with this little guy of mine. He is so much fun. Talking, cooing, and beginning to giggle. I had a great photo shoot with him yesterday capturing some of his sweet looks.



Theo is such a great smiler.

Heat wave

The heat has arrived! Happy summer!

I don't know why, but on the first extremely hot day of the summer the kids decided to take their toys outside right during the middle of the day. They asked if they could have lunch outside. I said yes, and even brought them ice cream sandwiches for dessert (I'm such a cool mom, right!) for which I got big smiles and thank yous. Then, because I'm such a cool mom, I brought them spray bottles to play with, which of course turned into getting soaked with the hose which led to finally getting bathing suits on and getting in the teeny tiny wading pool, which is where we probably should have been to begin with. After all that heat and water we came in for a fun afternoon of relaxing to a movie and some good air conditioning (thank goodness). In the evening we joined the youth from church at Bolsa Chica Beach. The weather was perfect and the sunset incredible. I felt so blissfully happy. It was simply a perfect summer day.

Theo's views on life

These kinds of conversations with Theo can go on and on. This is just a snippet of his adorable personality. He makes all kinds of different noises. At his two month check up the doctor even commented on how social he was. He had a conversation with her, too. Rebecca likes to translate what he says. She can understand him! ;)

Pretend City

Today we went to Pretend City. The kids loved it. I loved that they loved it, but would have loved it more myself with far fewer children in attendance. It was a little crazy in there. Pretend City has every thing a city would have for the kids to play with. A grocery store, fire station, doctor's office, theater, home, farm, even an ATM machine that dispenses play cash! It's really well thought out and makes you wish you could just have the place to yourself and a few friends for the afternoon!
Rebecca played with a friend and I stayed close to Joseph, which is why I mainly have pictures of Joseph doing stuff.

Here are some highlights:



Joseph wanted to pump gas but wouldn't do it if other kids were sitting in the car. He waited till they were done, got in himself, then got out to pump the gas. I'm just glad for a few seconds no one got in while he was pumping gas or he probably wouldn't have been happy!



They had a sand area, a water area, and a farm with fake dirt for digging and planting.






The house had real tools and real screws attached to the wall with enough give that you could screw them in and out.



We spent a lot of time putting pipes together.



The fire station was probably his favorite thing.



Those are "sound effect lips."





I thought the grocery store was really neat. The shelves were stocked, they even had a freezer, a sandwich shop with all the fixings, a produce section and two check out lines with cash registers.

Swimming lessons completed!

The two week swimming lessons didn't turn out to be a waste. I was a little worried Joseph might be too scared to cooperate, but he really improved over the course of the lessons! By the end he was willing to put his whole head under water on his own to retrieve a ring. He did a great job trying to do everything the teacher asked of him.

I didn't get to see much of Rebecca's swimming, but the teacher said she was on fire! They had a great time, but after two weeks of getting them to the pool every day we need a break.

Happy 4th of July!

Some of our friends, the Hiltons and the Tanners joined us for our city's fireworks festivities. We had heard bad things about the parking, but everything worked out perfectly. The kids played at the playground, we had a nice picnic and enjoyed talking and everyone loved the fireworks. The Tanner's little boy kept saying: "Mommy, did you see that one?" and our little Joseph had tears in his eyes (of joy) when the first fireworks went off, which were actually far away in the distance and not part of the real show. But he didn't know that and was so excited to see the fireworks. It was a great night.
