From the mouth of babes...

Tonight for Family Night Rebecca requested that Warren teach a lesson on what a bishop does.
So he explained some of his responsibilities, including the following conversation:

Warren: "I'm the presiding High Priest, that means I'm in charge of the adults."
Rebecca: "You mean, like mommy?"
Warren: "Yes, like mommy."
Rebecca: "But at home mommy is in charge of you!"

6 weeks!

Rebecca and Joseph continue to be proud to be older siblings. They are a great help to me. Rebecca even managed to put Theo to sleep the other night. Joseph is always quick to tell me if "the baby is crying." Joseph still loves to touch Theo's toes and fingers and head and arms. Yesterday he was twisting Theo's arm around and asked: "Is he strong? I can't find his muscles!"

History repeats itself

I don't know why, but the older siblings are always fascinated with holding the pacifier in the baby's mouth.

Little Helper and other moments

I left Rebecca holding Theo while I went to do laundry downstairs. I handed him to her awake and I fully expected him to be screaming by the time I got back. But instead, this is what I found:

We had an outing to LA for a friend's birthday party and had an impromptu evening out with our friends the Tanners.



Theo has been my earliest smiler, but I haven't gotten a good one on camera yet. Here is a fraction of a smile. It's one of life's sweet moments.

Santa brings Valentines on Mother's Day

Tonight during family scripture reading time, as we were reading in the Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi 30:18 Rebecca read the following:

"Wherefore, all things which have been revealed unto the children of men shall at that day be revealed; and Santa shall have power over the hearts of the children of men no more..." at which point Warren and I cracked up laughing. She asked why we were laughing and he told her the word was actually "Satan." We finished reading but suddenly Rebecca was in tears. She told Warren that it had hurt her feelings that we laughed at her. We explained that it was cute and proceeded to tell her stories where we had said the wrong thing and laughed at ourselves. Warren even admitted to his most recent over the pulpit error (which the kids and I had missed since we weren't at church yesterday). He went to the pulpit to greet everyone and wish everyone a happy mother's day with these words: "Happy Valentines Day!" It was an absolute honest mistake but the congregation roared with laughter.

The evening ended with Rebecca saying her own good night prayer, thanking Heavenly Father for laughter and jokes while she continued to crack up herself. It was one of those times where it was best just to let it go. I'm sure Heavenly Father was smiling.

Snitching when no one was looking?!

For Easter this year we taught Rebecca what it was like to hunt for Easter Eggs when I was a little girl. None of this plastic egg filled with candy stuff, folks. No sir, we hid real eggs that we had dyed the day before. (It had a lot to do with me not being in the mood to spend money on candy this year, or having energy to go buy anything for that matter either.) My parents were in town, anxiously awaiting the arrival of our baby, so my mom took over the Easter egg dyeing with the kids. I was huge (I gained over 50 pounds AGAIN this pregnancy-like I always do-but luckily Theo is only three weeks old now and I've already lost 30 pounds), was so swollen and just generally miserable physically. Easter was definitely a much better experience because of my mom's loving care and delicious cooking.

Joseph turns 3!

In April we celebrated Joseph's 3rd birthday. In honor of his birth with the LA fire department we went and visited a fire station nearby with his three friends and their older siblings. We got a thorough tour of the fire engine and the small fire station. We sat in the near by park and had cupcakes while the firemen had to respond to a call. Joseph was so shy when everyone sang Happy Birthday to him. It was very cute. He didn't even want to blow out his candles. He said Becca should do it. He was even too shy to try on any of the fireman gear, but I knew he was thrilled to be there.
