"Treasures"

One man's trash is another man's treasure.
For the first couple of weeks of school I gathered from Rebecca that she spent most of recess walking around by herself. One day I found all of the above items in her backpack front pocket. I asked: "What is this stuff?"
R: "Oh, those are my treasures. I like to collect treasures."

Today I asked her, "what makes something a treasure and not trash?"
She replied, "if it is beautiful to you it is a treasure. Like you are beautiful to me, so you are my treasure."

Melt my heart. You can collect treasures all you want. But I do hope you make some friends.

First Tooth

Rebecca finally lost her first tooth. This little guy had been loose for a long, long time. It was finally at a point where it was really bothering her and so with a little help from daddy we finally have a cute gap in Rebecca's mouth! She took her tooth to church and to school to show everyone. She was so excited, I haven't seen her this happy about something in a long time. She wrote a letter to the toothfairy asking if she could keep her tooth for now because she wanted to show it to her class. The toothfairy wrote back that she could and brought a gold dollar coin. Life is good!

The Flood

Last week the Sunday morning milk spill. This morning, the flood. Warren chopped off the head of a sprinkler while mowing last night. We had to run to a ward activity and completely forgot to fix it after we got home. Of course, the sprinklers were on this morning and I'm sure this spouted like a whale. It doesn't look that dramatic on camera, but you need to know that the little canal we have going on in the picture is about a foot and a half deep, with plans to be filled with dirt and sod. So, in order to save my red mandevilla from drowning, the kids and I spent about 45 minutes taking bucket after bucket of water out of the river before church.

When it rains, it pours.

33 on 09-09-09

I love my birthday. I always have. I don't have big expectations regarding gifts and such, but I do like making it a happy day. Warren took the day off to help me with the kids so that I could rest. We went to Trader Joe's together, got Macaroni Grill take-out for lunch, took a little nap and went to Disneyland after Rebecca came home from school. This year Disneyland is free on your birthday, or if you have an annual pass you get a $72 gift card on your birthday. So of course we had to go. We went on a couple of rides, had dinner and did a little shopping. Right after dinner we came out to find Mickey and Minnie forming a meet and greet line. We were second in line! What fun. I got birthday kisses from both Minnie and Mickey.

To complete my day I received lots of well wishes from lots of friends and family.
It was a perfect birthday.

My life as of late

(Rebecca took this picture. It's pretty accurate about how I've felt lately.)

Now that I've finally made the online announcement about my pregnancy I can finally talk about how rotten I've felt. It's been my hardest first trimester yet, the nausea, the exhaustion, hormone induced moods (translation: lots of crying.) I'm so grateful to be expecting another child, but I'll sure be glad when I'm feeling better.

This is an example of my house lately.

This is what I came downstairs to find when it was time to walk out the door for church. I was the organist that morning. Needless to say I didn't get there much before the meeting started. Just because you're feeling sick doesn't mean you don't have responsibilities anymore. We're just getting through this day by day and hope it won't last too long. But other than that, life is good!

1st Day of 1st Grade

Rebecca home from 1st grade

Hard to believe it's been a year since Rebecca started Kindergarten. She had three Kindergarten teachers because we moved and her new teacher was on maternity leave. Hopefully there will be more consistency this year. It was very non-dramatic in comparison to last year. We never even managed to get to bed early to get her on a schedule before school started. Oh well, she'll adjust now whether she wants to or not. We just got up, got dressed, ate, packed a lunch, said a prayer and off she went with her daddy. After I picked her up she told me, 1st grade is like Kindergarten. I can only take that as a compliment, meaning, she felt comfortable with the people and the activities. She told me she took the girl who sits next to her to the bathroom, so "she's my new best friend." Guess that's a good thing. She has a sweet teacher and everything seems great. I think we're going to have a good year.
