The Dangerfields Come to Town!

We had a fun last minute visit from Aunt Kathy and cousin Julie.  My kids love Aunt Kathy. She is like a surrogate Grandma to them when she comes.  They also loved Julie and had fun bonding with her.  Having Kathy and Julie here was a vacation for me. Warren was out of town that week so the girls stayed up late talking, watching fun movies, having frozen yogurt and analyzing life.  Aunt Kathy spoiled us and took us out to eat every night.  Kathy and Julie were also there for my Young Women evening on "Being Beautiful"- which was the culmination of several months of hard work, so it was great to be able to share it with someone.
The waves were wild at Huntington that day.
We cashed in some free kids meals awards at Rainforest Cafe  in Downtown Disney. The kids loved the rainforest atmosphere.
A spur of the moment treat: Kathy and Julie had a friend who works at Disneyland and was able to get them and Rebecca in for free for the afternoon.  Rebecca got to go on the new Ariel ride, something she's been wanting to do.  Joseph and Theo got lollipops as their "consolation" prize.

Thanks for coming Kathy and Julie! You're welcome to stay with us any time. We love you!

Growing Pains

I know I haven't posted all summer. Did you miss me? Probably not. You were probably enjoying summer as much as I was.  But summer has ended, school has started and brought with it (ironically) the hottest weather of the summer.

Rebecca started third grade and got off the bus proclaiming: "I LOVE my teacher!"
Joseph started Pre-K at Rebecca's school. It was a miracle that he got the very last spot they had to offer. He was very nervous but let me go without a problem, so it was successful!

I love my kiddos.  It made me emotional to let each one of them go.  I'm so glad they're a part of my life.

In sickness or health

There is nothing like being sick to help you appreciate health once more. This time it was Theo who was sick. This week he woke up one morning with a fever. The second day of the fever and inconsolable crying I finally took him in which is sooner than I normally would have but since I could not get him to stop crying the nurse suggested I should I have him checked. They found blisters in his throat and he measured 104 at the doctor's office. She said it was a virus but if the fever was still high on Saturday I should come in again. Well, the fever only got worse and by Friday 11pm it was measuring 105.8 under his arm and 107 on his forehead. He had also been throwing up for several days. Based on all of that information the pediatric advice over the phone wanted me to take him to the ER at midnight. There was no new diagnosis, but at least the doctor confirmed that he wasn't dehydrated and was just a very sick little boy.
Yesterday it was down to 102.8 and finally this morning only 101.8. I have hope tomorrow will be even better.

It was such a hard week having a baby that would cry whether you held him or not. He wouldn't eat, didn't want his milk most of the time, and was just completely miserable. Not to mention his parents were completely exhausted. Even though he's not better yet it's so nice to at least see him standing up once again and even smiling here or there. I know a lot of people were praying for him. Thank you so much. It helps you get through those rough moments.

Heritage Park Cerritos

Ever since I went there last year I've had the desire to go back to Heritage Park and take pictures of my kids. I tried today, but it was incredibly challenging without another adult to help me with the baby. The ones I took of all three kids didn't turn out because Theo would NOT sit still on Rebecca's lap.

I've had a secret desire to learn to become a good portrait photographer. I know it's going to take time, and all I can do right now is learn from books, but hopefully someday I can start understanding the physics behind it all and learn to take good pictures. I just hope I learn before my kids are too big! Right now I'm doing everything on automatic, and I want to learn how to use my camera properly. We'll get there eventually, right?!

About Me

My photo
I'm a woman who is trying to do her best each day of her life. I laugh, cry, make mistakes, create, make messes and clean. I love life and learning and staying in touch with family and friends. Every year I get to know myself better and how best to use my own strengths and weaknesses to navigate my path.
